MWG’s personal injury solicitors in Manchester help people understand their options after an accident or injury caused by another party’s negligence. From our office at Colonnade House, 163 Kingsway, we advise clients across South Manchester and Greater Manchester.

An injury can affect your work, independence and family life. Our team can assess responsibility, explain the evidence needed and discuss the losses that may form part of a claim.

Can I make a personal injury claim?

A claim usually requires evidence that another party owed you a legal duty, breached it and caused your injury and losses. An accident alone does not establish liability. We can consider the circumstances, available records and any disputed account.

Tell us if you may have contributed to the incident. Shared responsibility does not necessarily prevent a claim, but it can affect the outcome. The relevant rules and procedure depend on the type and value of the case.

What can personal injury compensation include?

The assessment considers the injury’s effect and the financial consequences supported by evidence. Depending on the case, this can include pain and suffering, lost earnings, treatment, travel, damaged property and reasonable care needs.

Serious cases may require detailed investigation of future earnings, rehabilitation, accommodation or adaptations. Keep receipts, employment records and a note of help provided by relatives. A valuation needs medical and other evidence; an online figure cannot establish what your individual claim is worth.

How the claims process works

  1. Initial assessment: explain what happened, when and where, the injuries and any urgent concern.
  2. Evidence and responsibility: identify witnesses, records and the party or insurer to approach.
  3. Medical evidence and losses: investigate the injury’s effects and document financial needs.
  4. Advice on resolution: consider the evidence, any offer and whether further steps or proceedings are needed.
Not every claim follows the same timetable. Liability disputes and uncertainty about recovery can affect the process. Ask the team what needs to happen next in your case.

Rehabilitation and early support

Tell us about treatment needs, reduced mobility, care or an urgent loss of income at the outset. In appropriate cases, rehabilitation or interim payments may be explored before final settlement. Neither is automatic, and the available route depends on liability, evidence and the circumstances.

Our Serious Injury service explains long-term needs. For a fuller introduction, read our guide to serious and catastrophic injury compensation.

How long do I have to claim?

For many personal injury claims in England and Wales, court proceedings must normally be started within three years of the injury or the relevant later date of knowledge. Exceptions and different periods can apply, including cases involving children, capacity, overseas incidents and particular compensation schemes.

Contact us promptly rather than waiting for the apparent deadline. Notifying an insurer or starting an online claim does not necessarily protect your position. We can assess the deadline applicable to your circumstances.
